The whole story behind this piece is that the girl has sold her soul to the devil in return of everlasting beauty. She must seduce men and give their souls to the devil. The devil is represented by the skeleton, and the eye he is holding will bestow the everlasting beauty on her. (beauty is in the ye of the beholder. People have always believed the beauty of the soul is shown through the eye).
